ASICS Superblast 3: The Cult Favourite Evolves
Lighter. Higher. Built For More.
There are certain shoes that define a category. Then there are shoes that define a year. This could be the shoe that defines 2026.
When the original Superblast landed, it didn’t just fill a gap in the ASICS range, it created an entirely new lane. A max stack, non plated, racing grade foam trainer that could handle recovery days, long runs and tempo sessions without feeling like a compromise. The Superblast 2 refined it. The Superblast 3 evolves it.
And it does so in a way that feels significant. And we’re so excited to finally talk about it.
If you walked into Pace over the last few years and asked, “What’s the one shoe that does a bit of everything?”, there’s a strong chance the answer was Superblast.
Not because it was trendy. Not because it was hyped.
Because it worked.
So when version three rolls around, this isn’t just another update. This is ASICS nailing one of the biggest models in their modern lineup and pushing it forward properly.
Let’s break it down.
The Superblast Evolution
How We Got Here
Superblast 1 - The Disruptor

When Superblast 1 dropped, it felt like ASICS had quietly ignored the rulebook.
Huge stack height.
Racing level foam.
No carbon plate.
It was light, it was fast enough, and it was absurdly protective. It felt like someone had taken race shoe energy and poured it into a training chassis.
For a lot of runners, it became the shoe of the year. One pair handled easy runs, long runs, and marathon pace work without blinking.
That doesn’t happen often.
Superblast 2 - The Refinement

Version two didn’t try to be dramatic. It cleaned things up.
The upper became more comfortable.
The outsole became more durable.
The ride became a touch softer and more forgiving.
It gained a few grams, but it gained polish. It became the kind of shoe you could confidently wear five days a week without thinking about it.
Again, for many runners, it was the shoe of that year.
That consistency matters. When a model becomes a staple in rotations across the country, brands don’t get to mess around with it.
Superblast 3

More Foam. Less Weight. New Midsole Science.
Here’s where things get interesting.
The Superblast 3 increases stack height to around 46.5mm in the heel. That is serious foam. Proper super maximal territory.
Yet it drops weight to roughly 239g.
Read that again.
More foam underfoot.
Less mass to move.
That combination is rare. And it’s not an accident.
FF Leap
The Real Story
The headline update is the introduction of FF Leap, an A-TPU based foam that we’ve seen in the new Metaspeed Tokyo Sky, Edge and Ray line up. So if that’s anything to go off, this is going to be a fun shoe.

If you’ve been following foam evolution over the last few years, you’ll know that A-TPU is having a moment for a reason. It allows shoes to chase high rebound without dragging weight or durability penalties behind it.
What does that mean in real terms?
The Superblast 3 feels:
-
Lighter on foot
-
More energetic at toe off
-
More protective over longer distances
-
Less flat late in runs
It brings back some of the snap people loved in Superblast 1, while keeping the comfort and stability improvements of version 2.
That balance is hard to nail. ASICS have managed to pull it off here.
Why The Weight Drop Actually Matters
When a shoe gets taller, it usually gets heavier. That’s physics. More material equals more mass.
But carrying extra weight over 15 to 25km adds up. Your calves feel it. Your hip flexors feel it. Your turnover slows.
By trimming weight while increasing stack, the Superblast 3 improves what we call cushion to weight ratio. That’s one of the biggest performance levers in modern training shoes.
It’s not just about softness. It’s about efficiency.

Still A Super Trainer
Still An All Rounder
The Superblast has always lived in that sweet spot between daily trainer and race shoe.
No carbon plate.
No aggressive stiffness.
No harsh snap.
But plenty of energy return. Plenty of protection. Plenty of rocker.
That means you can comfortably use it for:
-
Easy mileage
-
Long aerobic runs
-
Steady state efforts
-
Marathon pace sessions
-
Even the odd faster workout
For a lot of runners, this becomes the backbone of the rotation.
If you’re browsing the broader ASICS range, this sits right at the top of the non plated performance category within our ASICS Running Shoes collection. It’s the premium super trainer option, the one that blurs lines, in a good way.

Stability Without Carbon
One of the reasons the Superblast works for so many runners is that it doesn’t rely on a plate to create structure.
Instead you get:
-
A wide landing platform
-
Structured sidewalls
-
Dual density construction
-
A late stage rocker that rolls you forward
It feels controlled, not rigid. Stable, not restrictive.
For runners who found plated trainers too aggressive for everyday mileage, this matters.

Upper Updates
The upper appears more breathable than previous generations, which was one of the few consistent critiques of earlier models.
The winged tongue returns, helping lock the foot down over that tall stack. When you’re sitting nearly 47mm off the ground, security matters.
Comfort is still front and centre. But it feels dialled.
The Bigger Picture
It’s rare for a model to stay this relevant over three generations.
Version one defined the category.
Version two refined it.
Version three tightens everything up while pushing the performance ceiling higher.
Lighter.
More foam.
More rebound.
And versatile enough to be your one shoe solution if that’s how you like to run. The Superblast 3 remains a durable workhorse to log well over 800km comfortably.
That’s why this release feels important.
