HOKA Speedgoat 7: The GOAT is Back.
The HOKA Speedgoat 7 lands April 10th, and this one feels different straight away.
Not in a flashy, gimmicky way. More in a this just works way.
The Speedgoat has always been the shoe you grab when you don’t want to think too hard. Big day, unknown terrain, long run, rough conditions. It just handles it. That’s why it shows up everywhere from local trails to ultra start lines.
This version leans right into that again.
This is the kind of shoe that makes you take the more technical route home instead of the easy one. Built to Run Wilder.
It Just Feels Right Underfoot
The midsole is the story here.
HOKA has gone with a supercritical EVA setup and it lands in a really good place. You get enough cushion to take the edge off rocks and roots, but it still feels responsive when you want to move.
It is not soft and it is not dead. It sits right in the middle. You can cruise in it, or you can push the pace a bit and it keeps up.
On longer runs, this is where it stands out. You are not getting that build up of fatigue through your feet and legs. It absorbs what it needs to without feeling like it is working against you.
Even with the stack, it feels stable. You are sitting into the shoe, not wobbling on top of it. That matters when the ground is uneven and constantly changing.

Grip That Lets You Switch Off
The outsole is exactly what you want it to be.
Vibram Megagrip, 5mm lugs, slight tweak to the pattern. That’s it.
And that’s perfect.
You can run across wet rock, loose gravel, dry dirt, mixed trail, and you are not second guessing anything. It just grips and lets you focus on where you are going instead of how you are landing.
That is a big part of why this shoe works so well as an all rounder.

The Upper Actually Holds You In
This is where it feels more dialled.
The upper is more structured and connects properly through the lacing. When you tighten it, your foot stays put. No sliding around, no adjusting mid run.
On technical sections, that makes a difference. Especially when you are moving across uneven ground or off camber trails.
It still has some give through the forefoot with the Dynamic Vamp, so it is not restrictive. It just feels secure without being overbuilt.

The Kind of Shoe You Can Just Grab
This is where the Speedgoat 7 separates itself.
There are a lot of trail shoes that do one thing really well. Super soft, super aggressive, super light. They all have a place.
This is not that.
This is the shoe you can take anywhere.
-
Long runs
-
Technical trails
-
Mixed terrain
-
Last minute route changes
You don’t need to plan around it. You just put it on and go.
That is what makes it one of the best all round trail shoes out there.

Fit Notes
-
Secure through the midfoot
-
Enough room up front to stay comfortable
-
Slightly more dialled overall feel
If you like a bit more room, going up half a size is worth considering.
